What is the Kerygma?
The Kerygma is the “first announcement” of the Good News of Salvation.  It is the proclamation of the basic truths of our Christian faith: (1) God loves us, (2) Sin separates us from God, (3) Jesus reconciles us, and (4) the Holy Spirit transforms us.  But, we must say “Yes.” God will not force this reconciliation and transformation upon us.

A proclamation of the Kerygma is not mere words.  Rather, the proclamation has the power to transform us from the inside-out.  Through hearing and embracing the Kerygma, we become “new creations in Christ!”

Personal Encounter
Unfortunately, many Christians have learned things about Jesus (been “catechesized”), without truly knowing Christ.  Christ is alive!  He wants us to encounter Him with open eyes and palpitating heart.  Our Risen Savior does not merely want us to know about him.   Rather, He wants us to know Him – to enter into an intimate relationship with Him.

The LOTW Kerygmatic Retreat facilitates this personal encounter with Christ.  Through the proclamation of the Kerygma, sacramental renewal, prayer and adoration, the Retreat speaks to the heart of the attendees words flowing from the very Sacred Heart of Jesus: I love you My child; I call you personally by name; I wish you to be Mine!

Retreat Goal
The goal of the LOTW Retreat is to provide every retreatant with the opportunity to have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.  This goal is reached through: (1) listening to talks, (2) “processing” the information presented in small (facilitated) discussion groups, (3) quiet prayer, reflection and adoration, (4) receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation and (5) Renewing the “Sacraments of Initiation” (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation).

The Retreat is not meant to be merely a weekend experience.  Rather, it invites those who attend to become new creations in Christ.  The retreat equips those attending for their return to their lives.  The final talks address the topics of “living in love as disciples” and “becoming light for our world.”
